Question:
Can you tell me. Can I make wudhu if I have a drip in me? Like make masa of it and then read salaah? Also if there’s a little bit of blood in the drip tube itself, is it still permissible to read salaah?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If it is difficult or harmful to open the bandageover the drip needle and wipe the skin, then it will be permissible to make Masah over the bandage. It is necessary to make Masah over majority of the bandage.[i]
The amount of blood in the drip tube is generally very minimal. Nevertheless,if it is a short term temporary drip, then it would be advisable for oneto try and schedule it in a way that it does not interfere with one’s Salah.
In the case of a long term drip, if the blood in the drip tube is less than the size of a dirham which is generally the case, then Salah in this case will be permissible.[ii]
If the amount of blood in the drip tube is equal to or more than the size of a dirham[iii], the general ruling is that Salah with such an amount of blood is not permissible. However, given the difficulty and hardship in having to constantly remove the drip tube in order to clean out the blood for Salah,[iv]one will be excused and the Salah in this state will be valid.
As a matter of precaution, it is advisable to later repeat those Salah performed withblood in the drip tubeequal to or more than the size of a dirham.

“وعفي قدر الدرهم” وزنا في المتجسدة وهو عشرون قيراطا ومساحة في المائعة وهو قدر مقعر الكف داخل مفاصل الأصابع كما وفقه الهندواني وهو الصحيح
