Refund Query

Refund Query

Question:

Maaf to bother you Mufti saab. I have a question please and urgently require an answer. Jzklh.

I purchased goods in Rands at Riyals value. If I’m returning the goods back, do I need to pay at current Riyals value or at the original prices that I paid?

NB: The transaction was made via eft in Rands. The seller wants to charge the current Riyals rate which is much more than was paid. Is this transaction permissible? The Rand Riyals rate at the time of purchase was R4.48 and the current rate is R4.33 which is a loss to me as the seller will gain.

*Maaf the current Riyals rate is less now, not more. Error in my msg

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

In order for us to advise, we require the following clarification:

  1. What do you mean by “purchased goods in Rands at Riyals value”?
  2. In the initial transaction, which currency was the total agreed to be paid in? Did you agree to pay him in Rands or Riyals?

Please Clarify. We will advise further.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
