My question is can we memorize the quran using imam kaaba videos on youtube if we know the basics of tajweed (e.g. knowing how to prounounce the letters, and what to do when there is a pesh, zabr, or madd). If not, then can you please recommend me an online quran tutor that is willing to do hifz. Jizkallah.

There is great virtue in memorizing the Qur’an. See the following Ahadith:
عَنْعَبْدِاللَّهِبْنِعَمْرٍو،عَنِالنَّبِيِّصلىاللهعليهوسلمقَالَ “ يُقَالُلِصَاحِبِالْقُرْآنِاقْرَأْوَارْتَقِوَرَتِّلْكَمَاكُنْتَتُرَتِّلُفِيالدُّنْيَافَإِنَّمَنْزِلَتَكَعِنْدَآخِرِآيَةٍتَقْرَأُبِهَا ” (جامع الترمذي: 2914)
Translation: Abdullah ibn Amr (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is reported to have mentioned: “It will be said to the one who memorized the Qur’an ‘Recite, and rise up, recite melodiously as you would recite melodiously in the world. For indeed your rank (abode in Jannah) shall be at the last Ayah you recited. (Jami Al-Tirmidhi: 2914)
عَنْ عُثْمَانَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ “ خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ “(صحيح البخاري: 5027)
Translation:Uthman Ibn Affan (Radhiyallahu Anhu) narrates thatthe Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari: 5027)
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ “ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَهْوَ حَافِظٌ لَهُ مَعَ السَّفَرَةِ الْكِرَامِ الْبَرَرَةِ، وَمَثَلُ الَّذِي يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ وَهْوَ يَتَعَاهَدُهُ وَهْوَ عَلَيْهِ شَدِيدٌ، فَلَهُ أَجْرَانِ ” (صحيح البخاري: 4937)
Translation: Aisha (Radhiyallahu Anha) narrates thatthe Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “Such a person who recites the Qur’an and masters it by heart, will be with the noble righteous scribes (in Heaven). And such a person who exerts himself to learn the Qur’an by heart, and recites it with great difficulty, will have a double reward.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari: 4937)
It is advisable to memorize the Qur’an under the personal supervision of a teacher who is a Qari (expert in recitation of the Qur’an). That will enable one to progress more with constant supervision and perfect ones Tajweed and recitation.
Accordingly, we advise you to visit the Masajid in your local area and inquire if there is any Alim or Hafiz available for you to do your Hifz directly under. If this cannot be facilitated, then you may revert to us with your location. We will advise further.
