Question:
Assalamu alaykum Hazrat.
I am alhamdulillaah a muslim.
But a question strikes my mind seldomly, that, why Allaah ta’ala created certain creatures like mosquitoes etc that only harms us and spread umpteen diseases?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in Islam,
You refer to mosquitos being harmful and question why Allah created mosquitoes. The same could be said regarding human beings who kill each other and cause corruption on earth. Allah refers to the negative characteristics of humans in the Quran:
أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ (سورة البقرة:آية 30)
Translation:“Why put in it one who will cause corruption on it and shed blood” (Surah Al-Baqarah :30)
There are many other creatures and animals besides human beings that have apparent negative characteristics and are harmful.
Allahis Al-Hakeem (The Most Wise). Every act/creation of Allah is based on His infinite wisdom. Our understanding and wisdom is limited. We may not completely understand the wisdom of Allah regardingHis creation. Allah Ta’ala says in the Quran:
وَمَاخَلَقْنَاالسَّمَاءَوَالْأَرْضَوَمَابَيْنَهُمَابَاطِلًا ۚ (سورة ص : آية 27)
Translation:“We have not created the heavens, the earth and that which is between the two in vain (without a special purpose)”(Surah Saad:27)
It is clearly understood from the verse that every creation of Allah has a purpose.
You refer to a mosquito and enquire why Allah created a mosquito. Consider the following facts about a mosquito.
The mosquitoplays an integral part in the preservation of the aquatic eco-system.[i]
The mosquito also plays a vital role in the food chain as it is a reliable source of food for thousands of animals which in turn provide a source of food for us.[ii]
Mosquitos also help to pollinate certain plants and increases plant life.[iii]
