Question:
Abdullah b. Shaqiq reported:
Ibn ‘Abbas one day addressed us in the afternoon (after the afternoon prayer) till the sun disappeared and the stars appeared, and the people began to say: Prayer, prayer. A person from Banu Tamim came there. He neither slackened nor turned away, but (continued crying): Prayer, prayer. Ibn ‘Abbas said: May you be deprived of your mother, do you teach me Sunnah? And then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) combining the noon and afternoon prayers and the sunset and ‘Isha’ prayers. ‘Abdullah b. Shaqiq said: Some doubt was created in my mind about it. So I came to Abu Huraira and asked him (about it) and he testified his assertion.

Salam sheikh,
My question is that in the hadith it can be seen that ibn abbas(ra) while adressing the ppl missed the prayer and he advised ……….
So can we combine prayers based on this hadith

Answer:
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
According to the Hanafi Madhab (school of thought), every Salah must be performed at its prescribed time. It is not permissible to join two Salahs in one time.
The meaning of “combine between Zuhr and Asr and between Maghrib and Isha” is not literal. Rather, it is meant in its figurative sense which is called Jam‘ Suri (apparent joining). Apparent joining is to delay one Salah until before its expiry time and perform the next Salah immediately upon the time setting in. Accordingly, each Salah is performed in its own time.
The hadith in reference may be understood according to the aforementioned explanation.[i]
