Answer:
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Dear brother,
We apologize for our belated response.
It is commendable to note that your wife keeps herself away from distractions.
At the outset, we are advised by the Qur’an to avoid all forms of lahw (idle work). A Muslim is innately productive. If they are not engaged in the worship of Allah, they busy themselves in fulfilling their responsibilities. While it is natural for one to relax, such sessions must not be void of benefit. One should ensure that whatever activity one involves themselves in serves a higher purpose. To sit idly without purpose is contrary to the noble traits of a believer.
The easiest and simplest way of achieving a productive day is by setting daily or weekly goals and then planning out the day accordingly. Every minute of the day should be accounted for. When the day is not planned out, it leaves room for wasting time. When we waste time, we are more likely to engage in unbeneficial things.
The day can be planned to accommodate permissible ways of relaxation. One should strive to relax through ways that benefit the body and mind or enhance one’s overall skills. This includes exercise, reading permissible literature, following an online class, siesta etc. The overall goal behind these activities should be to regain focus to return to tasks and responsibilities. Such activities should remain means to a greater end.
