Assalamualaykum Mufti Sb.
I have a very urgent question which I request you that if you can also get it checked by your Mufti teacher plz.
A couple days back, my brother had an argument with his his wife in which he said the following exact words just one time: “ I will divorce you ”. He said he never intended divorce when saying these words.
Will divorce take place. Could you get back to me as soon as possible please as I said its very urgent.

Answer:
In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in Islam,
The statement: “I will divorce you” is a threat to divorce and an intention to issue divorce in the future. Accordingly, in the enquired situation, the divorce does not take place.[i]
Brother, you should explain to your brother that it is imperative that a person be wary of the things he utters regardless of any emotions he may be experiencing. He should be careful not to say such things that he may regret later.
